Moreton Bay is an important southern home for dugongs. These gentle marine mammals spend much of their time grazing shallow seagrass meadows.

Moreton Bay Marine Park protects 3,400 square kilometres of open and sheltered water. Tropical and temperate species overlap here across seagrass meadows, sandbanks, mudflats, mangroves, reefs and beaches.
Those habitats feed, shelter and connect everything from tiny juvenile fish to turtles, dolphins and dugongs. Sightings are never guaranteed—and that is exactly what makes every real encounter special.

TURTLES
Green and loggerhead turtles are the most common marine turtles in Moreton Bay’s coastal waters. They use the bay for food, shelter and, in some places, nesting.

DOLPHINS
Bottlenose and Australian humpback dolphins are resident species in the marine park. They move through shallows, seagrass areas, estuaries and deeper bay water.

FISH + RAYS
Seagrass, mudflats and sheltered shallows act as food grounds and nurseries for fish, crabs, prawns, rays and many other small creatures.

PELICANS
Pelicans and other coastal birds use the bay’s shallows, beaches, jetties and parklands. Watch them naturally—food scraps change wild behaviour.

SHOREBIRDS
Moreton Bay’s tidal flats are internationally important feeding and resting habitat. Thousands of migratory shorebirds arrive each year, while resident species remain year-round.

SHARKS
Smaller sharks such as wobbegongs are part of a healthy coastal ecosystem. Aqua Warrior guests use a defined, supervised activity area enclosed by the park’s large perimeter net, helping separate the course from the surrounding open water.

The best wildlife encounter is the one that leaves the animal completely free to keep doing what it was doing.
- 01WATCH, DON'T CHASE.Keep a respectful distance and never surround wildlife.
- 02NEVER FEED.Human food changes natural behaviour and can make animals sick.
- 03NOTHING OVERBOARD.Secure wrappers, straps, bottles and every piece of rubbish.
- 04GIVE BIRDS SPACE.Go slowly around feeding or resting flocks along the shore.
- 05PROTECT THE SHALLOWS.Seagrass is food, shelter and nursery habitat—not empty water.

Fishing is part of the Redcliffe story. After Aqua Warrior, keep the day going at one of the peninsula's popular jetty or foreshore fishing spots.
